FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers for guests, venues, MSPs and technical evaluators.

Getting connected

Does a first‑time guest need the Tagnect app?

Yes. A guest without the app taps the tag, is sent to the App Store or Google Play, installs the free Tagnect app, then taps the tag again and follows the instructions.

Does a guest create an account?

No. There is no account and no sign‑up form. The venue sets the access policy.

What if a guest has no mobile data?

Venues can offer a restricted network that only allows downloading the Tagnect app. Ask the venue whether it is enabled.

Can a laptop or other device connect?

Yes, in every configuration. Once a phone is connected, the guest generates a one‑time passcode (OTP) in the Tagnect app to connect a laptop or any device without NFC. Managers can also issue OTPs in the Tagnect Manager app or the web console.

For venues and MSPs

Does Tagnect work with my current router?

Most likely. Tagnect is available for UniFi, Omada and Meraki managed controllers, for MikroTik routers on RouterOS 7.17 or newer, and for OpenWrt‑compatible routers running the Tagnect controller. Juniper Mist and HPE Aruba are in development. If you use MikroTik or OpenWrt, share your router model and firmware with our team to confirm. See the compatibility table.

Which controls depend on my equipment?

Session duration, time windows, grace periods, groups and OTP work in every deployment. Bandwidth, quota, VLAN, client isolation and device limits depend on the specifications of your controller.

Is there a ready‑to‑use Tagnect router?

For managed controllers (UniFi, Omada and Meraki) or MikroTik routers, no special router is needed: Tagnect works with the equipment you already have. For smaller venues, ready‑to‑use OpenWrt appliances are being negotiated with router manufacturers. Today, OpenWrt‑compatible routers — or routers that can be reflashed with OpenWrt — are eligible to run the Tagnect controller.

What does “active NTag” mean?

Plans are sized by the maximum number of NTags active at the same time per tenant. Each tenant covers one venue (a single physical street address, with any number of access points). Retired tags stop counting, and one‑time passcodes do not count.

Does Tagnect replace my router or internet service?

No. Tagnect coordinates guest access; it does not provide internet service and does not carry guest traffic.

If Tagnect goes down, do my operations stop?

No. Checkout, card terminals and internal systems stay on a separate network with a fixed key that Tagnect does not manage. On the guest network, guests already connected keep browsing; only new tag sign‑ins wait for the service to return. See the topology.

Who owns the guest data?

The venue. Tagnect doesn't ask guests to sign up, doesn't build profiles and doesn't use data for advertising; it processes only what is needed to grant access, as a processor, in line with the GDPR and Brazil's LGPD. See Data and privacy.

How do MSPs manage several customers?

Each customer has its own tenant. The customer's owner invites the partner as a manager, with the permissions needed to operate it.

Privacy

Does Tagnect collect guest emails for marketing?

No. The guest flow has no sign‑up form, and Tagnect does not use guest data for advertising. See the Privacy Policy.

How long is connection data kept?

The device's MAC address is deleted 15 minutes after the session or OTP expires. The history of tag reads is deleted after 1 day by default (venues may set up to 45 days); it records which tag was read and when, and contains no MAC address, IP address, name or contact details.

Does the website use cookies or tracking pixels?

No. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without cookies and without personal data, to count visits in aggregate.

How do I request deletion of my data?

Email privacy@tagnect.com with the subject “Data deletion”. Guests have no account and their device identifier is deleted automatically after the session. Details in the Privacy Policy.

Pricing and partners

Is the subscription billed monthly?

Yes, monthly per tenant, in US dollars. Hardware, installation, taxes and partner services may be separate.

What is the Early Black Friday?

The Tagnect launch in early November coincides with Black Friday, so the launch terms run from launch through Cyber Monday. For anyone who buys the annual plan by November 30, 2026: pay for 10 months and use 12, the launch price locked for 24 months, and free assisted setup.

How does the annual plan work?

You pay 12 months upfront for the price of 10 months of the monthly plan. The price is locked for 24 months, including the second‑year renewal. To sign up, contact our sales team.

What about the monthly plan?

The monthly plan stays at the launch price, with no commitment: you can cancel anytime. It does not include the 2 free months or the price lock of the annual plan.

How do MSP commissions work?

Commissions depend on the partner tier and the signed partner agreement. See MSPs & partners.
